June 1
I would like to apologize for my writing. I know it isn't the best writing and it is probably pretty scattered. But, it will have to do. I am doing so many things at the same time and trying to keep this updated with as much as I can.
12:13pm Cambodian time
Woke up at 7am this morning and packed as fast as I could which still took 20 minutes. I have tried doing the vacuum seal packing with plastic bags. It worked really well the other day but I don't think I had enough time for it to work as well this morning. I still fit everything though.
I ate an omelet and some toast and we got in the bus. 4 hours to Sihanoukville. It's the beach though so I think we're all really excited for some R&R this afternoon. We then get to go on a boat cruise and fish or snorkel tomorrow and go to an island. Should be awesome.
The bus ride has been pretty bumpy. Pretty similar to Nepal just it isn't the whole trip like it was there, just some parts that get super bumpy and are really bad. The scenery has been pretty much the same as the other day. Nothing too exciting.
My duct tape has again come in handy. I ended up giving Chrissy some for her 200 baht shoes that had been completely mangled at the elephant camp. But, my adapter is really large and it is hard to get it to stay in the wall. Obviously solution, tape it so it stays. It's worked beautifully.
We should be at the beach in the next 10 minutes...
4:35pm Cambodian time
Once we got to our hotel we had 15 minutes to change into our suits (swimming costumes as the british say) and then we were going out to eat and explore the beach. We went to a cute little beach cafe. It wasn't on the beach but it was on the road to the beach. I ordered chicken fingers and it came with a sweet chili sauce and it was really good.
Then, we headed to the beach. The beach is really nice and the town is really clean. There are even signs that say do not litter. The beach front is lined with cafes and bars. The sand has a bunch of chairs with cushions on them as well for people to sit on. It's really nice and very beautiful.
We set our stuff down and went directly into the water. It was so warm. The salt water actually stung my legs though. not Dead Sea style but it still was burning. And, the locals we talked to who were selling us bracelets think its freezing so that's funny. It was possibly even warmer than the showers I take.
It started to rain and the people working grabbed all the cushions and brought them inside so we had to move. Of course, it was just a drizzle and the rain only lasted a few minutes.
A bunch of the girls were getting massages so I sat down and got ambushed. I was okay with it though. A foot massage and a back massage. It felt good. My back is super tight. I'll definitely want to get a long back massage in Thailand. While she was giving me a foot massage she started threading my leg hair. I had no idea what she was doing. I didn't really hurt at all either. Well... I think they've been threading my leg hair for 40 minutes now. It's starting to hurt a bit now. Hopefully I won't have to shave for a while? Definitely not the relaxing beach experience I had in mind. I'm not sure if I'm sweating because it hurts or if its because it is hot. It's not even really that hot.
I'm sitting back a little way from everyone and its pretty funny. There are a bunch of people surrounding the group trying to get them to buy bracelets or get massages. Like literally a massive number of people. Today is going to be expensive. Still less than it would be in the US but shit. When I'm alone for some reason it is way easier to say no. When everyone else is there its hard. I know the massage is $4 but I have no idea if that includes the threading or what. I had a banana shake for $1.50 and I bought 3 bracelets for $5. One of them has "jojo" written on it. The girl selling it to me gave me a free bracelet and we talked for a while so I bought a bracelet from her and had her put her name on it. She is 20 and is still going to school and has 2 brothers and 2 sisters. She is the youngest. I also got ambushed by a kid for 2 bracelets for $3 . It's actually kind of obnoxious. I'm tempted to just not bring money with me when I go out but that doesn't really work either. It also one of those things though where now I know how poor everyone here is so I feel like sometimes its ok. I just don't wan to get taken advantage of. Plus I don't need a million bracelets. I need to be done buying shit now though. Especially stupid shit that I don't need.
I really want this threading to be over. Holy shit. Ha.
5:41pm Cambodian time (the next day though)
Yesterday was ridiculous. It was a terrible experience.
Once they finally got done with my legs I paid them $10. Apparently that wasn't enough. They wanted $10 for each leg. The one lady who started doing it ended up asking another lady to come help because it was taking so long.
I MUST be a Titche because clearly, I now know that I am a hairy beast. They were still pulling hair out and I had shaved the day before. I have never been able to get a smooth, close shave though so I'm sure this will help. Exfoliation!
It bothered me because they were complaining that it took so long. I wanted to be like bitch! I didn't ask you to do this! You started doing it on your own. AND you saw how hairy I was before you started. So, shut your mouth. You chose that.
Annnddd now i know she chose it to screw me out of my money. They each wanted $10. I felt like that was so much money. Especially for Cambodia. But they were just hanging around and following me and telling me to ask my friends for money.
I had money, I just didn't want to pay them. Kristen had paid $30 for everything so I ended up paying them each $10. They were arguing with me when I told them that was too much. Telling me their fingers hurt and it took 2 hours (which it didn't) but fuckkk ladies! Choose more wisely! Find a non hairy person! But I guess I can't complain even because I played into it and ended up paying them the money.
But! It's not over! The original lady still wanted $4 for the massage. I thought that was ridiculous. I told her I didn't have any more money and that I couldn't pay. She just looked at me and stood there starring. I started to walk away and she told me again I still owed her money and again, I said I didn't have anymore. She then asked, "you come back and pay tomorrow?" I said no. She said, "I come find you on the beach or after your tour. You pay me then." I just walked away.
We had a few hours. I think I read. I'm reading "Room" which whit recommended to me and its so good. I hate putting it down. And, if I didn't spend so much time on this blog I would have finished it ages ago.
So we went out for dinner and met around 7:15pm as a group to walk down to the beach and meet Matt. I legit put on a headscarf thing so the woman wouldn't recognize me. I refuse to pay that $4. I already got ripped off. I'm not paying more to get screwed out of money by annoying people who ruined my relaxing beach time.
Dinner was literally on the beach. Like kick your sandals off out your toes in the sand style. The beach looked really nice at night. The padded wood nest chairs were still out there. There were tables with candles. There were lots of fire works going off because you can light them more toward the water. Also, the kids were running around with the fireworks to sell them and it just seemed wrong. Its amazing how late little kids stay up here. But they are all working or their parents are working and they don't have anywhere else they can be alone.
A lot of us had banana cocktails. It was good. Not good enough to get more than 1 though for me. Since we were on a beach I ordered seafood. I got BBQ tiger prawns. They were okay. There were 4 of them and it was $5. It came with garlic bread, fries, and said there was BBQ sauce on it but there definitely wasn't. The whole shrimp is on the plate when they serve it, head and all. Many things here come with salad and a lot of people eat it but I haven't been able to convince myself to eat salad yet. Even though I really badly want a salad.
After dinner I was exhausted and went back to the room. A lot of the group stayed on the beach. I think I missed some people twirling fire sticks. I'm okay missing that ha.
Unfortunately, I did not have a good sleep this evening. I couldn't fall asleep. I woke up every 2 or 3 hours. Our room is directly by the stairs and elevator so its really loud. We also have a construction sight just out our window and they started work on that early morning. The walls are also really thin and we could hear a Japanese family.
Also, when we were at the beach today Sarah had a really bad experience. She had promised one girl that she would buy a bracelet from her. When she wanted to buy the bracelet she couldn't find the same girl so she went to buy one from another girl. The original girl she had promised saw this happening and came over and started screaming in her face because she was buying from someone else and had promised her. The girl made a huge scene to try to get money from Sarah and started telling her to fuck off and that she hoped her plane went down when she was flying home. It was crazy. I think they ended up just leaving and not buying anything.
I would like to apologize for my writing. I know it isn't the best writing and it is probably pretty scattered. But, it will have to do. I am doing so many things at the same time and trying to keep this updated with as much as I can.

Eat the salad! That's why you have Cipro!
