Nahkon Si Thammarat

July 6

Today was a pretty boring day. In the morning I got Marion and I up and we made sure to make it to the included breakfast at the hotel. After that we packed and chilled in the room until noon when we had to check out.

I then walked to Starbucks with Marion, Jilleanne, Katie, and Becca. I don't drink Starbucks at home ever, but here they had a green tea white chocolate drink I really wanted to try. It was pretty good. The green tea part had tapioca chunks in it which was a little strange but when I got used to it I thought it was pretty good.

We walked around and shopped a bit. I overpaid for a pair of pants that I liked. It was 300 baht and everywhere else I probably could have bought them for 150 baht. The problem though is that we were on Koh Samui which is super touristy and very overpriced. Oh well.

At 1:30 we loaded into vans. We were missing August and Katya though. It kinda seemed like we were going to leave without them! We didn't though. The hotel said that everyone had checked out but Brett called up to their room and they were still sleeping. They slept all the way through the night!

We took an hour van ride to the port. Then we waited a bit before we could get on the ferry. Our ferry tickets were like really thick and non bendable hotel keys. We had to insert them into a machine to get through to the ferry. The ferry was like the firs one we took. Huge. And had a ton of cars on the bottom. This time we sat inside in an air conditioned compartment. It was nice and comfortable, aside from the smell of weird meat. And by that i literally mean mystery meat. so eww. Luckily, my nose neutralized pretty quickly to the smell so I didn't have to continue breathing that. I guess it could have been way worse if it had been bathroom smell or something. Either way, gross.

The ferry seemed like it took a long time. Maybe 2 hours? When we got off the ferry we transferred to vans and drove another 2 hours to Nakhon Si Thammarat. This was a pretty shitty town. Nothing to do or see. Not very appealing. But we needed a place to sleep for the night before we continued our travels into Malaysia the next day.

On the road we had stopped at a 7 eleven and I was introduced to the ham and cheese toastie. So good! It's package and they cool it for you on a George Foreman grill. Yum! So good. I don't think we have that in the US?

When we got to the hotel in Nahkon Si Thammarat, we went up to the rooms to put our stuff down. I sat down on the bed and it was rock hard. Like literally. I told Marion this and I don't really know what she thought I meant by rock hard but she came over and plopped down on the bed. We laughed for a bit because it literally is like a piece of wood instead of a mattress. It's not firm. It's rock hard. The room was pretty basic but it was a place to sleep.

Brett took us out to see where the super market and a restaurant were. I looked at the restaurant menu and decided to venture to the grocery store. Jilleanne had the same thought so we both went. After a million years of trying to decide what I wanted for dinner, I settled on splitting peanut butter and jelly as well as yoghurt with Jilleanne. Yes... I ate PB&J. Peanut butter isn't as nasty as I remember it being but I still wouldn't choose to eat it. Plus I think in the states I still can't stand the strong smell of the PB. I still remember practically gagging when it was left in the sink at my house in kzoo in a clump on a knife.

I bought more apples too. Having apples is the best decision I ever made. I just finished my last one from Bangkok so it was time for some more. The store was hard. I really wanted a sandwich with cheese and some type of meat but I couldn't really find packaged meat or really even meat that didn't need to be cooked. That's why I finally landed on PB&J.

I spent the rest of the evening using the wifi. Which again, was only in the lobby. Not my fav. But it was fine.

Another long travel day tomorrow! Today was pretty rainy so it was a good day to travel. Would not have been a good each day at all. We got lucky!
